The Paul and Jean Harris Home Foundation warmly welcomes everyone attending Rotary International’s Annual Convention in Houston!
While at the Convention, you are cordially invited to visit our Booth – #833 – in the House of Friendship. There, you can learn about the restoration of Comely Bank, the home of Paul and Jean Harris in Chicago, where they lived from 1912 to 1947. The interior of the home now reflects how it was when Paul and Jean hosted Rotarians visiting from around the world in the 1930s and 1940s.
The Paul and Jean Harris Home also invites you to visit Comely Bank when you are in the Chicago area. Tours are available by appointment. Experience the feeling of being in the same place where Paul Harris and his early Rotarian friends planned the world-wide growth of the Rotary movement. See how Paul and Jean loved their Home, nested on a wooded hilltop in the Beverly/Morgan Park area of Chicago. In this Home, they served Rotary and watched as it expanded from one Club in Chicago with four members to over 5,600 Clubs in 75 countries, with more than 259,000 members by 1947, when Paul Harris passed away.
The work on the Harris Home is not complete. The next phase, dependent on funding, is the restoration of the International Peace Garden, or Friendship Garden, that welcomed so many visitors to Comely Bank. Please consider a donation to the Paul and Jean Harris Home as a way to preserve the unique history of this Rotary landmark and to help finish the project.
The address of Comely Bank is: 10856 South Longwood Drive, Chicago, Illinois. Tours by appointment only at this time.
